Ashley Weir is a captivating performer from Edmonton, Alberta with piercing vocals and a strong presence. Known as a vocal “Powerhouse” her wide range of vocal ability along with training and experience in the performing arts makes her versatile in all genres of music and has helped her to become the musical performer she is today. After years of singing on stage Ashley found her soul in Alternative rock music. Her nitty and gritty vocal chops have been compared to legendary female front Anne Wilson of Heart and Lzzy Hale of Halestorm. With a raspy voice, unique vibrato, bone chilling belt, and piercing higher range Ashley Weir leaves her audiences breathless.
During her youth, Ashley channeled her boundless enthusiasm for music in an effort to turn her interests into a future career onstage. Throughout high school she pursued training in singing, guitar, acting and dancing to harness her talent. In her graduating year, Ashley received the Hank Gerristen Memorial Scholarship, an award given to a student that has a musical ability that brings benefit to their community. She used this Scholarship to attend Grant MacEwan University’s Theatre Arts Program. In early 2011, she recorded 3 demos, available on several social media sites, that began to attract positive feedback. The simplicity of her act; a young woman with a big voice and a little guitar, working out her own deeply personal search for meaning within her songs, allowed for her creative spirit and inner most emotions to be revealed to all those who listened. In 2013, Ashley gave birth to her son Declan and uses him as her ongoing inspiration to follow her dreams.
Since 2013, opportunities continue to present themselves. Most recently, Ashley has been nominated for “Artist to Watch” in the 2014 Edmonton Music Award and the recording of her first single “You Not Me” was released to Itunes on June 30, 2015. With plans to record a full-length album , and booking bigger events with her band, 2016 is already looking to be a big year for Ashley.
